Pinot Noir was the first wine we made under the Praxis label. Praxis is derived from the Greek word for practice as a doctor or lawyer practices their craft. Praxis was also a pre-Arts and Crafts philosophy espousing the importance of striving for perfection while knowing that it will never be fully achieved. Since launching the label, we have also found that it is a moon of the Klingon home planet in Star Trek and a verb for domination in an on-line vampire game.
This is our sixth vintage of Pinot Noir and our second from this vineyard in Monterey. The color is a deep garnet hue with purple overtones. The wine brims with aromas of bing cherries, ripe plums, black currant, cola and vanilla. Flavors of strawberries and cassis are elegantly balanced in this soft and silky wine. The wine has a rich texture and is velvety and full bodied. Very well integrated tannins pair nicely with the bright acidity of the wine.
