Our Wines / 2005 Praxis Lagrein
During a trip to the Italian Alps, Bill became fascinated by this wine that he had never previously tasted. We first tried Lagrein while on a hunt to see the remains of Utzi, the Alpine Ice Man. (Susan was an archaeologist in her earlier life). Pronounced Lah-GRAYHN, these grapes have been grown in Northern Italy for over 300 years. In the spirit of Praxis where Bill gets to play a little with winemaking, we decided to make our own. We found a vineyard of American Lagrein on the Central Coast. The wine is deep, dark red and has the body of a Merlot. Rich, ripe plum and berry flavors are accented by nuances of vanilla and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a silky mouth feel, the wine is ready to drink now. | Varietal Composition: | 100% Lagrein | | Appellation: | Central Coast | | Alcohol: | 14.5% | | pH: | 3.6 | | Brix at Harvest : | 24.6 | | % Malolactic: | 100% | | TA (g/100ml): | 0.62 | | Residual Sugar (g/100ml): | 0.02 | | Winemaker: | Bill Arbios | | Production: | 130 cases | | Size: | 750ml |
