Our Wines / 1998 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Chicago Daily Herald, November 2002 Mary Ross’ Pick of the Week "Big flavors of mountain fruit erupt through solid tannin…an elegant balance of green olive, earth, plum and the lightest touch of oak." Nation’s Restaurant News, October 2002 Wine of the Week "Arbios, a fairly new winery, offers a classic example of a wine that does not follow the vintage charts. Although 1998 is supposed to be an “off vintage” for Northern California wines, this ’98 Cabernet Sauvignon tastes very well now. Arbios is a solid well-balanced Cabernet, somewhat European in style with hints of oak well integrated into the wine" Winemaker’s notes Arbios is a two-person company making wine from a single vineyard. Our size allows us flexibility to adapt to the vagaries of the weather. These grapes were picked the day before Thanksgiving letting them ripen more fully than many other producers in this vintage. The extra hang time allowed the complex aroma of this wine to develop and express more fully the terroir of this mountaintop vineyard. The Cabernet has elegant balance, is approachable, and is full and soft in the mouth. | Varietal Composition: | 100% Cabernet Sauvignon | | Appellation: | Alexander Valley | | Months in Oak: | 24 | | Alcohol: | 13.5 | | pH: | 3.58 | | Cabernet Sauvignon Brix : | 24.2 | | % Malolactic: | 100% | | Type of Oak: | French | | TA (g/100ml): | 0.62 | | Residual Sugar: | .02 | | Winemaker: | Bill Arbios | | Production: | 780 cases |
